WHAT CAN 7,000 LANGUAGES TELL US ABOUT HUMANITY?

April 7, 2026

From migration patterns to cultural evolution, languages carry traces of who we are and how we came to be. But what exactly do linguists do, and why does it matter?

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), VinUniversity invites you to a CAS Talk: “What 7000 Languages Tell Us About the History of Humanity” with Professor Umberto Ansaldo – our Dean of CAS

In this session, Professor Ansaldo will guide us through the richness of linguistic diversity and how the study of languages, together with genetics and human geography, can reveal the story of human societies and the dynamics shaping our world today.
