
On 13-14 March 2026 in Can Tho, the International Conference on Culture, Society, and Humanities Towards Sustainable Development was co-organized by Can Tho University and UNESCO Chair in Environmental Leadership, Cultural Heritage & Biodiversity, VinUniversity.
Prof. K. David Harrison, PhD, Chairholder of VinUniversity UNESCO Chair, served as Co-Head of the Organizing Committee, while Assoc. Prof. Huynh Van Da (Can Tho University and Co-Chair of VinUniversity UNESCO Chair) served as Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee.
The conference opened with remarks by Mr. Jonathan Baker, UNESCO Representative and Head of Office in Vietnam and guest of honour, who affirmed the importance of the UNESCO Chairs network and the responsibility universities carry in ensuring the evolving role of culture in sustainable development.
The conference featured a wide range of academic and experiential activities including key lectures and thematic discussions spanning culture, society, and the humanities, research posters and a Photovoice exhibition including projects presented by VinUnians, a cultural heritage showcase featuring traditional music and dance performances, handicrafts, local cuisine, and book displays, and a pre-conference field excursion to U Minh Ha National Park.
The event represents an important part of the UNESCO Chair’s mission to connect academic institutions across the region, foster research collaboration, and contribute to strengthening local research capacity.
