🎬 A MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS FRESHMAN’S FIRST CUT: STEPPING INTO PROFESSIONAL MEDIA PRODUCTION 🎬
Hello everyone! My name is Phuong Trang, a first-year Multimedia Communication student at VinUni. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to take part in several professional production projects with On-set, a young and energetic production company.
đź’ˇ Could you briefly introduce On-set and your specific role in the team?
On-set is a company operating in the fields of Media and Production and has contributed to various VinUni projects such as the TVCs “A Day of VinUnians”, “A Place Where We Belong”, and the Tet 2025 photo series. Because of that, On-set might already be familiar to many students on campus.
At On-set, we believe that every individual carries a unique story worth listening to and valuing. That is why we always strive to tell those stories in the most authentic and emotionally compelling way through every photo and every frame.
Currently, I serve as a Talent Manager at On-set, where I have the opportunity to work directly with actors as well as other team members. To me, an actor’s experience in a project should not stop at simply going to work. It should feel like coming home.
Over the past few months, I have been involved in two TVC projects between On-set and VinUni, “A Day of VinUnians” and “A Place Where We Belong”. Both left distinct impressions on me as they were journeys of learning, hands-on experience, and meaningful connections with new people.
However, “A Place Where We Belong” is probably the most memorable project for me because of an unforgettable incident. On that day, the weather conditions were not ideal, and one of the actors experienced health issues, which made me genuinely worried. At that moment, I also saw the true spirit of On-set. No one has to face problems alone. The entire team came together to take care of the actor, quickly brought them to a medical facility, and continued checking in afterward to ensure their well-being.
đź’ˇ What challenges have you encountered in a professional production environment?
As a first-year student, I initially felt quite overwhelmed stepping into On-set and needed a lot of guidance. There were moments when I struggled with technical terminology, had difficulty managing tasks, felt unfamiliar with the professional working environment, and even felt dizzy when facing complex filming equipment.
Fortunately, at On-set, professionalism always comes with warmth. From feeling completely lost at the beginning, I was guided step by step by my seniors, who were always willing to answer even my smallest questions. Thanks to that, I gradually became more confident and mature through each project.
In addition, my academic journey at CAS has been incredibly helpful in my work. The courses I have taken and am currently taking not only provide knowledge but also help me develop the mindset and skills necessary to work in a professional production environment.
Beyond the classroom, I am also part of the Public Affairs team of the Student Council at VinUni. This is a very dynamic environment where I can apply what I have learned in practice while continuing to strengthen my communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
đź’ˇ How do you see your future direction in media and creativity?
On-set has given me the opportunity to explore many different aspects of media, and I am truly grateful for that. In the near future, my goal is simple: to continue experiencing as much as possible, to learn, to grow, and to better understand the depth and potential of the field of communication.
In the long term, I aspire to become a professional producer. I want to bring the spirit of “We tell stories” further, continuing to tell stories in the most vivid way.
