The College of Arts and Sciences cultivates six attributes for success: Character, Competence, Critical Thinking, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and National Pride – Global Awareness. The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to providing the majority of VinUni’s General Education program courses and coordinating other colleges’ general education courses, providing inter-/multi-/trans-disciplinary programs. We aim to offer excellence in undergraduate and graduate education and research, diversity, intellectual curiosity (the broad spectrum of human knowledge in natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, or cross disciplines), and personalized and life-long learning.

Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences! As the new Dean, I am inviting you to reflect on this question: what do the Obamas, George Soros, Hayao Miyazaki and Jack Ma have in common? Meanwhile, a little about myself.See more
As a linguist, my passion lies in the study of languages, especially those of the wider Asian region. I am interested in sociological and historical aspects of language, and I have written about how languages evolve over time, as well as documented endangered languages. I am originally Italian, but I have lived and worked in the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. Throughout my journey I have become increasingly passionate about the role of the Arts – or the Humanities and Social Sciences – in higher education, in research, and in the workplace.
So back to the question. Michelle and Barack Obama are famous as a former US Presidential couple, as well as people of great influence who actively contribute to positive change. George Soros is one of the world’s richest men and an influential figure in global affairs. Hayao Miyazaki founded Studio Ghibli and became one of the most innovative and successful contemporary movie and TV directors. Jack Ma founded the e-giant Ali Baba and is one of China’s richest persons. I could go on with more examples like them. What they all have in common, my friend, is that they all obtained Arts degrees as their educational qualification. So, tell your parents not to worry. If your heart longs for the Humanities and the Social Sciences, you have chosen well: whether it is wealth, fame, or, best of all, contributing to a better future, we have everything you need to succeed in your future choices.
