VinUniversity College of Arts and Sciences Freshmen Reflect on the 5th Convocation: “Together, We Thrive”

The 5th Convocation of VinUniversity took place in a solemn and joyful atmosphere, bringing lecturers, students, and parents together. This event marked a significant milestone for VinUniversity, especially as the institution became the youngest in the world to earn the comprehensive 5-star QS certification from the prestigious education ranking organization QS-Quacquarelli Symonds (UK). Despite its youth, VinUniversity continues to push boundaries in pursuit of excellence and leadership.

This year’s Convocation was especially meaningful for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), now in the second year of welcoming new students. Established in July 2022, the College of Arts and Sciences aimed to offer interdisciplinary programs in the fields of arts and sciences. By August 2023, CAS started developing three undergraduate programs in Economics, Psychology, and Multimedia Communications. These programs, validated by Cornell University standards, focus on providing a flexible, interdisciplinary education grounded in the General Liberal Arts philosophy, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset for 21st-century success.  With the theme “Together, We Thrive” for this academic year, the CAS journey to conquer the new horizon is promising and beyond.

Reflecting on the event, Tran Duy Kien, a Communication major from the 5th cohort, shared his excitement:

“During the hour, I felt most fascinated by the CoHort 5 parade. Being recognized, applauded, and welcomed by all faculties, staff members, and seniors touched every emotion of me. Moreover, the QS 5-star awarding ceremony marked one of the most honourable achievements of the entire university in the relentless effort to improve the educational quality in Vietnam.”

Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, a CoHort 5 Psychology major and recipient of a 100% scholarship, expressed her deep sense of belonging during the Convocation:

“VinUniversity’s convocation felt different to me—it was filled with emotions I wasn’t expecting. Hearing inspiring speeches and watching meaningful ceremonies, I felt like I was truly “a part” of it—“a part” of the school, “a part” of CAS, “a part” of the contributions to the school’s success in the coming years. When President Le Mai Lan and Dean Dzung called out and waved to the CAS students, and we stood up to wave back, my heart swelled with pride. At that moment, it felt like home, and I knew we had to try our best to make them proud.”
